Where do the crows go? |
Lead | |
|
Every time I go to Market Basket at dusk, I see hundreds of crows flying from the Babson Reservoir area towards the harbor or points south. Where are they
heading, Ravenswood?

There are far too many in my back yard every morning.
Crow-atia, bwahaha! Good one. Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered
by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor
defeat.

Just headed cautiously over to the crocus caucus on crow island in Manchester before they croak.

All the crows on Cape Ann roost (sleep) together, often in a single tree. You can see them as the murders (groups of crows) merge together at night and
disperse in the morning.

With all the crow eating going on here one would think the population would be down.

I see them coming from the Mill River every night before the sun goes down, must be hundreds of them. They are so noisy glad they don't stop near here.

before i moved they would fly over my house every evening going to roost in the winter, there were thousands so it seemed, it would take about 10-20 minutes
for them all to go over.
one night they were all in the trees by cape ann animal aid. i'm not sure if that was there regular hang out or not, or if they choose different locations. i also learned that its a way for the unpaired to find a lifetime mate |

A murder of crows.
That's just so delightfully fitting. It's one of those little gifts that the language occasionally gives -- like onomatopoeia. Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered
by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor
defeat.

Don't think they have a regular spot they go to, about a year ago had well over 100 or them in a grove of large trees on my property for a day or so, very
noisy and eerie but they didn't stay. We still have a half dozen or so in the neighborhood just about every day but don't think they stay overnight.

They've all been summoned to crowbait court.

There was a devastating incidence of them in upstate N.Y.when they interfered with air travel, to/from a military airfield, near the top of one of the Finger
Lakes. It was in wine country, and they were also were eating the grapes, and ruining the vines, and chasing the tourisits away. They also wintered over up
there, not letting the frigid temps and heavy snows interfere with their appetites.
