Anyone else fall victim to this nasty flu?
Any remedies you want to share? I've been chocking down theraflu for 4 days and tylenol, hasn't helped a lick.

There has been a mycoplasma making the rounds -- not a flu, but similar to mild flu symptoms... not much fatigue or muscle ache, but a bad, bad cough, not
always very productive, mild fever. I understand it can sometimes progress into pneumonia, so you should keep an eye on it, assuming this is what you have.
You can get antibiotics against mycoplasmas, but they don't shorten the recovery all that much. Unless, of course, it progresses to pneumonia. Takes a long time to get over. I've had it for a couple of weeks. I did not have the flu, but something similar to what lefty describes. Needed antibiotics to kick it.

I have that bug it is a nasty fu#2er and it feels like an infection not just a cold/flu. What antibiotics are recommended ? b/c my tribal doc can call in a
'scrip for anything within reason. I have had it for a few days: cold sweats, bronchial deep coughing, some intermittent sinus events. Usually nails me
right after dinner as it did last night with a fever spike. Seems to respond well to Tylenol and Ibuprofen to alleviate the symptoms. Definitely has taken me
off the party circuit and off the slopes. You don't want this thing it just sucks.

It does suck. I didn't bother with the antibiotics because it was already getting better before a MD friend told me what it likely was. He said the
antibiotics would help a little, but that I would get over it OK on my own. Mycoplasmas don't respond quickly to antibiotics, I guess.
He called it "atypical pneumonia" but said it could progress into a full-fledge pneumonia (I think as a secondary infection) in some cases, which is when you should get help pronto. For antibiotics, this page came up at the top of my search. I can't vouch for its reliability, but it seems reasonable:
http://www.shasta.com/cybermom/myco%20tx%20sugg.htm "ANTIBIOTICS The antibiotics recommended by researchers and specialists to treat Mycoplasma are the following: Doxycycline, Ciprofloxacin, Azithromycin, Minocycline, Clarithromycin, and Levaquin. Antibiotics recommended by Dr. Garth Nicolson (for complete recommendations, go to his web site : www.iimmed.org) are all at a fairly high dosage. He recommends starting with Doxycycline. But, if you are chemically sensitive, Ciprofloxacin may be the first antibiotic of choice. For those infected with the species of Mycoplasma hominus, Azithromycin may be the most effective." My husband has Bronchitis, and I can feel me coming down with it too now... He went to the doctor this morning, and I am headed over tomorrow, so it does not
develop into Pneumonia by Monday... I feel so crappy that I even forgot it was Valentine's Day for a while today.... but my roses are beautiful
Guess we aren't going out tonight |

what really helped me rid my body of this nastyness is......
1. heavy socks 2. sweat pants 3. long sleve Tshirt 4. heavy sweat shirt 5. winter hat 6. slide into bed 7. down comforter 8. electric blanket turned up to HIGH 9. lay in be for 1 hour and sweat the thing out Kinda nasty but worked for me, not saying you or anyone else should do this but that is what I do when I can't get a bug out of my system and it works everytime.

There seems to be lots of it around. Do beware of the possibility of pneumonia. From what I've heard, the most effective antibiotic is the Zith pak. Feel
better, Joe. No fun.

I had it for a week with a fever of 101.5 on and off, sweats and then freezing, sinus pressure, cough and exhausted. Went to doctor after 3 days of fever and
got ZPack for bronchitis, sinus infection and cough medicine for cough at night. Also took Mucinex, Motrin for fever, NyQuil and Sudafed. It takes a lot out
of you and although I didn't have a fever after a week, I still felt very tired and not 100%. After week three, I am finally feeling better. This is also
going around with the stomach bug-thank goodness I didn't have that too. I have not been this sick in a long time-the high fever was a bit scary.

I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a wicked sinus headache and the day is not getting better. After reading this I'm a-skeered!
Luckily I got a totally unexpected and totally adored present today --- an electric throw. Guess my incessant complaining about being cold got heard. Think I'll go make some mint tea and crawl under it........

Par Putt - exactly what my Pop used to do - only he'd also slug down some whiskey before hitting the hot bed. He was a physician, so couldn't
afford to take a lot of time off. He'd spend the night sweating, and the next day be back to his normal self. Worked like a charm.

Other years, but not this one so far. I depend on lemon juice, in hot tea, moisture and showers. Mucho hand washing, hot soapy water, and staying at least
6' back from anyone else coughing, sneezing. Would like to have one winter w/o what seems inevitable.
