Ward 1 is Gloucester's step-child |

I hope some parts of the city are having their pot holes fixed because East Gloucester is being totally ignored. The gaping maws in Ward One have been like
that for weeks. The area around Haskell St. and Mt. Pleasant Ave., (for one), is a candidate for "Ripley's Believe It or Not".

seems everyone feels their ward is ignored the most...in the pothole case, I'm sure all wards are equally bumpy.

I dare anyone to try to drive Witham St. and guess which puddles are actually sink holes that will eat a car. It will make you feel like a teenager again.
Haskell/ Mt. Pleasant is horrible too, but no man eating holes. Another biggie on Bass Ave.

Maybe it's because the Ward 1 councilor has no political juice. He's too busy trying to micro manage the city and funnel as much money he can into the
school's.......

Mt. Vernon st. area had some potholes filled two days ago. Don't know which crew did it the three blind mice or the three stooges but they filled the big
holes and left many of the smaller ones untouched..now common sense would tell you that these small holes turn into the big ones
rather quickly.. maybe we should have an audit to find the smarter DPW workers to work the pot hole truck..for my civic duty I'm going to get some flourescent paint and circle the remaining holes in my neighborhood so my daughter doesn't ruin my car..hopefully I won't be put in officer Quinns graffiti book but something has to be done..if your ward isn't getting attention call your councilor every day.. the sqeaky wheel gets the grease.. |

Just this morning (around 8:30) I saw potholes on Atlantic Rd being patched (East Gloucester, Ward 1). These are the same holes I mentioned awhile back and they were filled once already I believe. I'm sure all the rain we had the other day just opened them back up or made the existing ones bigger all over the city.. Cold patch isn't going to fix the problem. Most of Gloucester's roads need to be re-paved, there is no quick fix for the problem. |

I wonder why the mayor hasn't called in the potholes on her street yet. They ain't pretty.
Then again, E. Gloucester is the poster child for bad roads.

Fix the road dope | ||

From Wednesday's GDT Under Larceny and Vandalism "Police received a report of vandalism yesterday at 7:09 a.m. Someone had written "Fix the road dope" in black marker on the door of an Aqualine truck in the Department of Public Works yard." I was going to hit up Ace for some marking paint too. Great Idea. Just don't get run over, the city won't pay your medical bills. There seems to be no ryhme or reason to the pothole fillary. A mystery of management. CK went to Beacon Hill and got nothing. She tried to go to Capitol Hill, got negged. All the govs converge on the white house to beg for money for
roads, bridges, water systems, ya know, the infrastructure we need and are mandated to maintain and build by the government. They got nothing cuz zippy is
sending our money elsewhere.

S.C.A.- An oldie but goodie! Maybe if the city recieves all the bills for broken struts, shocks and butts, something might get done.

The DPW is out there every single day patching potholes. The driver goes to Watertown before dawn every day to get a truckload of patch, and they keep patching
until it's gone. If there's time, they go back and get more.
If you want to know why there isn't a systematic covering of entire neighborhoods, talk to the councilors. The citizens call and complain (from all over the city, mind you), the councilors call managers and demand that CERTAIN potholes get filled, and the end result is that the managers run city workers from one end of the city limits to the other randomly patching holes rather than taking care of entire neighborhoods. It's a waste of gasoline, and it's certainly not the best use of the workers' time. You may also have noticed that it has snowed or rained heavily with a fair amount of frequency this winter, so if you have patched holes and a plow comes along, it's going to loosen the patch. When the patch is loosened, each plow pass lifts it more. If it rains even moderately, the patch is a goner. (By the way, the same guys out plowing all night, up for 36 or 48 hours at a stretch, are the same ones trying to fill those holes, so you can bet they wish they'd stay patched!) Bottom line? Complain to the city council at the next meeting, NOT just about individual potholes, but HOW they're approached. Foresta, of course, is correct about all the city streets needing repaving. Until that happens, the same old song will be sung about the same old potholes. And one more thing, all who take aim at others' job performance, all while assuming that their job(s) are so easy (and that's pretty much most of us in this world), should have to actually DO the job for a day or week It's amazing how your perspective changes when you actually KNOW what you're talking about.

I agree with Dimps bottom line that it is HOW the problem of filling potholes is approached. Once again, it all reverts to a Management issue...the manager
needs to set up schedules and follow through daily. Having said that, I am sure there ARE times when the DPW gets phone calls from citizens demanding that
specific pot holes get filled immediately which could throw off the schedule if the manager calls the street worker and says "you have to go here,
there" etc. I do believe that there is someone who drives around looking for the worse pot holes and puts them on the priority list........and that is
probably the guy that everyone says they see "riding around town all day doing nothing" Heh? Geez, you can't please everyone all the time. Make a
list, stick to the list and manage!!!! JMO

Why the hell is someone driving to Watertown everyday to get patch. The cost of gas and personell must be ridiculous. WTF???
I did a search on Google and found a great product which could be stockpiled here all winter. I wish I'm missing something or this city is operating under the guidance of MORONS - literally! |

All bullshit excuses Dimps. Here's a suggestion:
Monday - Ward 1 Tuesday - Ward 2 Wednesday - Ward 3 Thursday - Ward 4 Friday - Ward 5 Weekends - OT is used to target specific ones not covered during the week. Repeat. Now. What else can we solve? |
