Letter: Mass. liberals fail to keep me and my family safe
To the editor:
With the liberals in control of every branch of government here in Massachusetts, I have to say that they are failing in every aspect to keep me and my family safe.
First, they grant complete amnesty and immunity to illegal immigrants from all the crimes that they commit. Deval, himself, has ordered the state police not to pursue apprehending illegal immigrants if they happen to catch them. If it wasn't bad enough that the elected liberals support illegal immigrants from crossing our borders illegally, they even allow them to drive without insurance and driver's licenses.
The worst offense of all is that if the illegals are caught driving, our liberal form of government is too cowardly to deport them. Our state government won't even go after the illegals if they fail to show up for court appearances or failure to pay their fines. How can I keep my family safe on the road if a liberal form of government grants certain people who break its laws complete and total immunity? How can liberals call all men equal when they treat criminals with more respect than law-abiding citizens?
I am less safe with liberals in power when they want marijuana use decriminalized to a misdemeanor. How am I safer when a society is under the influence of mind-altering drugs? No one has a "right" to do any mind-altering drug for recreational use in public. Just look how the justice system in Massachusetts has failed the people.
How many times can drug and alcohol users and abusers be put back on the street again and again. Our drunk driving laws are still not tough enough. If you're caught under the influence just once, then your driver's license should be taken away for life. Now that's zero tolerance. How do liberal appointed judges keep me and my family safe when you hear about people being arrested for the sixth or seventh time while driving under the influence?
Then we have the biggest failure of all from the Democrats here in Massachusetts. Our state prison system is so overcrowded because of the liberals failure to build more prisons to incarcerate criminals. Our judicial system is like a revolving door, where criminals who prey on law-abiding citizens are instantly let go and given "probation" time and time again because of our government's failure to properly punish those who break the laws that it creates. The liberals were too busy funding the $15 billion Big Dig state government boondoggle and giving half a billion dollars a year to feed and house illegal immigrants, instead of building adequate state prison facilities. Nonetheless, we baby prisoners in this state by giving them so many comforts - I thought prison was supposed to be punishment instead of Club Med.
I feel bad for all the victims of every crime committed to them. They don't stand a chance against a form of government that takes care of itself instead of the law-abiding citizens. One of the very first responsibilities of a democratic form of government is to create laws in order to protect its people. People are not free when a government and its judicial branch pander to the criminal element. I'd say that correct parenting through proper morals is the best way to reduce crime, but that certain mind-set is hard to come by nowadays.
