Much rather have a Marshall's/TJ Maxx than just about any other department store. Staples is needed, but A.C. Moore wouldn't be my top priority.
I'm generally happy with Smith's for most hardware needs, too.

Chain retailers are cutting way back on expansion plans this year, so that'll be a huge factor in who ends up at GC. Malls and shopping centers are losing
tenants in a big way lately. Not the best time for Sam Park, I'm sure.

I can't imagine this place supporting a Lowes.

Does Sam Park dream about pies in the sky?? If he doesn't, he'd better start.

No way it will support a Lowes and frankly, I'd just as soon keep going to Smith's anyway. A department store like Marshall's and a Staples would
make out fine, I think. Of course, with Staples you can order $50 worth of stuff and you get next day delivery so what's the point for most things.

Any word on a department store like walmart coming. marshall's and tj max are mostly just clothes

Cape Ann demographics would never support a Walmart. Those stores depend on volume, which we can't provide. A Trader Joe's might fly, though.

Marshall's and Staples have signed leases. There will be announcements of more stores within weeks. It is 60% leased or with firm commitments. The
restaurants have not been locked down but there was talk of a Panera or Panera type and the 99 might be a part of the hotel from what I understood at our
meeting.
The project will inject $650,000.00 a year in real estate taxes with the tiff, $800,000 after the tiff period is over. That is some serious scratch. There will be kiosks with info about downtown businesses, and CATA service to and from. I heard nothing of Lowe's in our meeting. Any other questions? What I understood was once he got his final approvals from the city, tennants have been coming to him. |

No walmart, No TJ Max. Marshalls is coming which is owned by TJ Max. That may be where the confusion is coming but it is the Marshalls version that will be at Glou Crossing. There was also talk of a crafts type store, I believe that was still under negotiations so I won't say the name of it til it is locked down.

I forgot.. I also heard Panerra. YIPPEE!!! What is the other store....just like AC Moore?? Michael's, I think??? I heard Sam say that they are begging to
get in. I cant imagine us supporting a Lowe's and I love Ace. But man, would I love to see those building center dudes squirm.
Oh... also heard last week that the construction on the project at Washington and Reynard is going to begin in the next few weeks. So much for neighborly input that they promised. 16 home, 32 cars, avg. of 32 kids....Where are we putting them???? More influx to Beeman??? |
