Seven people who failed to properly dispose of their dog’s poop during or following visits to Good Harbor Beach will be receiving a special citation in mail.
The civil citations were all issued Monday by police, and each calls for a $100 fine under the city’s code of ordinances regarding animals.
Under the dog ordinance, canines are allowed to run unleashed but under control by their owner on Good Harbor on even-numbered days through April 30, and Monday was March 20. But owners are also required to have an adequate number of disposal bags or other appropriate device for removal of their dogs’ waste, and owners “must clean up after their dogs and dispose of the waste in an appropriate waste container,” the ordinance reads.
According to the citations, some owners simply allowed their dogs to relieve themselves without using any disposal materials, while others initially cleaned up after their pets but then left the bag of waste on the beach, near the end of the footbridge off Nautilus Road.
All of the citations are being mailed to the pet owners, police said.
