A Great White Owl with a wing span of 6 + feet would attract wagers of 1 hr or more worth entertainment.
A true 'sport' in the 19th century right here on Cape Ann.

Owl Wrassling on Cape Ann |

You take your gun and clip a Great White Owl, just enough so he can no longer fly. Then you place your bets as to how long it takes to wrassle the bird to its
death. You are not permitted to wear gloves; just your bare hands against the bird's beak and talons.

You know, les, I could gone the rest of my life without knowing this little fact.
Ancestors (here and over there) baited bears, set dogs against each other, burned a witch and hanged a horse thief. I hope we've evolved. |

"canned" hunts go on all across the country where they use leftover tame zoo animals stalked and shot by wealthy, bored thrillseekers. i don't
think we have evolved enough...

this conversation got me thinking about money.... too little when it could make a difference in respect to human and animal suffering and too much allows what
i spoke of above to happen.

By the way -- what's a great white owl? I know what a great horned owl is, and I know what a great grey owl is... is a great white owl an olde-tyme name
for a snowy owl?
