I have heard one too many stories lately from friends and in general about employers STEALING from their employees, sales people and customers. Are times that
tough, are people that unscrupulous? I swear it happens because your basic aholes think they can get away with it!
Case 1: Phone rings - Hey, sparkster, this is Joe Sales, and I repped for High R Standard insulation of Newburyport (DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS THIEF) and he fired me after I submitted my commission sheets showing he owed me $7000. I remember you were the guy who was harraasing him last year after he f'd you and your company. 1stly, imagine getting porked for $7k then imagine how badly you just want to work the guys face over but then again jail would suck.
Case 2: Guy I know meets me for lunch, telling me he is owned $30,000 by his company in salary and commissions but when he got to work on Monday, the place was padlocked and there was a state DOR sticker on the window. Thought something was up since a day before he got a cancellation notice on his health insurance. The "boss" is now in Florida, the scumbag state and his young wife has had to take up being a nanny for lack of any other work out there.
Case 3: Company is being readied for sale to an investor group ( sure sign of pending TROUBLE) and all the staff and sales people are told that their wages are being cut and that all the jobs already sold under the existing commission plan will be paid half of whats due "sign here immediately to consent to this or you will be terminated immediately". Luckily, one of the sales women's brother is a hot shot lawyer in Boston and they get a letter out THAT DAY to let the ownership know that STEALING is illegal and they will be prosecuted for both breach of contract and theft. The case is pending.
Someday, these folks will get their due. One can only hope.
