Pretty amazing race, it was...
To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.-Theodore Roosevelt, The Kansas City Star, May 7, 1918 |

Big Brown was incredibly impressive today, but my mind can never, ever wrap around
the awesome runner that was Secretariat. I still bawl my head off every time I watch the Derby, Preakness and Belmont...love the horses....always will!

Big Brown was magnificent. I love to watch the horses' incredible muscles work so perfectly as they move. Their bodies are just exquisite.
Talked to someone today whose daughter (college senior in Boston) piled into a car with 6 friends and sleeping bags and went down to see the race. She'd never been to one before. Can't wait to hear about her reaction and experience. |

Evelyn, I'm jealous, aren't you?
I grew up in a small college town in Vermont where a local stable housed retired Saratoga Horses. I literally lived in those stables during every waking moment, much to my parents chagrin! Though I grew up in VT, horse stables are not unpleasant...unlike the cow stable! I will never forget touching an Arabian horse for the first time. His coat was like silk and beyond, indescribably soft, almost ethereal. I'm still partial to a quarter horse or Morgan, though. It's the Vermonter in me! Please post their experience, Evelyn, if you feel it is ok to do so. Am curious about the event!

Thinking of Eight Belles and the horses in Puerto Rico right now.

Me too, Brainfix.
Hard pills to swallow, poor thing.

Indeed, Brain and Sunny.
May be a while before I see her dad again, but I'll be sure to let you know when I do.
I also grew up around horses (not our own, but those of friends and neighbors) and spent many happy hours communing with them. In some way that I can't really find the words to describe, horses have such sweet souls.
