Rained on my parade, but we still enjoyed! Nothing wrong with getting wet, and many of the floats, walkers and audience obviously agreed!
Fireworks were great....
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY !!!

It was a great third of July!
I have a lot photos still to upload, but I put a few in this Flickr Set where you can view larger sizes. One of my favorite music makers, Gary Richard:
The bag pipes are also on my favorites list:
Then it got dark:
Then it started to rain:
These guys were terrific - dancing in the pouring rain and looked like they enjoyed it:
David Benjamin and his city-wide band - great job, kids and as always, kudos to Mr. Benjamin:
What's a little rain?
Then it rained harder:
And the wind really picked up:
This band, The Runaround, bowed out of the parade at Tally's because of their equipment. Once the parade passed, we found an impromptu concert going on in the garage below: (Check out the link to their myspace. Great young guys with a nice sound.)
Everyone was having so much fun, we moved them out to the parking area at Pavilion Beach to play until the fireworks:
And what fireworks they were!
Have a safe and happy 4th!

Wow.. Thanks CAW.. I really appreciate seeing a little bit of home today... I am TRULY homesick this week...
Yesterday, I sold Balloons with my older daughter's class, for a fundraiser. It was the first time that someone was selling balloons out on the street at the 3rd of July parade in this town. Can you friggin' believe that?? The 3rd of July Parade here has irritated me since I have been here... No vendors walking up and down the street, no floats allowed, and it's ALL walkers and little kids. I thought selling balloons would be a fantastic idea, and out of the 125 we had to blow up, we were left with 5... I was right, it worked! Can someone tell me the prices of latex & 18 inch mylar ballons at the Horribles Parade this year?? One of the F'ing Locals here told me I was charging too much for them... I had them at $3 for a 18 inch Latex, or 2 for $5, and $5 for the Mylar.. Most everyone else did not bat an eyelash at that... Anyway- I spent the day with my kid, and had a fun day,, despite the rain |

Only got to see a bit of the parade - apparently once it got to Dunkin Donuts on Washington St, a lot of the paraders took a left and went back to the High
School - so those of us at the end of the parade saw maybe half of it. It started pouring just as the parade got to us - made it interesting!

we bee-lined it into Capt' Carlos and never went back outside to see if the parade broke up or not.....kudos to the walkers that stuck it out.
I'd rather laugh with
the sinners than cry with the saints
The sinners are much more fun... |

While I was waiting for the parade at the corner of Emmanuel Lewis & Main St., I was thinking about all the people there waiting with us, and the stories
about people reserving spots, and how the police were going to crack down on it.
And I realized that this is another reason that I love Gloucester, and will live here for the rest of my life. This parade is important to us. And I love it. |

Yes, it's important to all of us, even those without reserved spaces.

The Rockport parade was great! No rain, nice and cool. We found a great spot on South Street for all 13 of us!

Makes me want to steel chairs fer the hell of it.

Funny how people are wired so differently .... the whole hosie thing does not even register on my annoyance meter ...

Maybe because I was the youngest child.

The youngest child in the family is, statistically, the one least apt to marry.

So, I have fulfilled my statistical obligations. Am I free to go?

Interesting...the hosie thing doesn't bother me, either. I'm the oldest child.

Funny how we all have such different sticky points. Any middle kids want to weigh in?

I did - see above.
My theory is that the oldest child gets lots of attention until the second child comes along. The baby get lots of attention just by being the baby. The middle child is free to do whatever in hell she/he wants, since no one is paying attention. |
