i've been looking for an unwanted bird and i'm finding craigslist to be very difficult also., particularly looking for an african grey or a smaller to medium sized cockatoo, i know they are out there, but these people scooping them up and then reselling them are ruining it for the rest of us. or are breeders looking to make a buck,
i don't have a ton of money to spend on adding a new bird to our flock which consist of a blue fronted amamzon and a lesser sulphur crested cockatoo, and 7 little tiels that were all rehomed to me (for free) either unwanted or in bad situations.
i have been thinking about getting another bird for about a year, and just started looking around over the last couple of months, including applying at the bird rescues, which i haven't heard back from.
who would of thought people would be selling thier unwanted birds for the price that you can buy a baby with no issues from a breeder. much of the time i don't even get a response from the person looking to rehome thier bird, or they are long gone to who knows where . i don't believe in the mass breeding that's going on in our country, there are so many birds in bad situations, and one bad home can really destroy any chance at happiness for the rest of thier long lives. they are so incredibly long lived, are so sensitive, and traumatized so easily.
i would really like to find an older bird in need of a forever home, i know many may have issues but that's okay there is always hope they can learn to trust again.
i have talked to a few people and it turned out the bird wasn't a right fit for our family, i'm simply looking for one that tends to prefer women over men, because both of my big girls came to me allready set in thier ways and prefer men, my guy gets the cuddles on the couch even thought i'm the spoiler and all around bird slave, it's okay they still love me but not like they love him! when i say i'm a bird slave, i'm am not kidding, i'm also a federally permitted wildlife rehabilitator specializing in songbirds (ei: why i don't have alot of money). it's expensive and does not pay to help wildlife, they have no owners to pay the vet bills, food cost, medical supplies, caging cost and everything else that goes along with helping the injured and orphaned.
my birds also get greatly discounted and sometimes free vetrinary care because the vets that help me with the songbirds know the sacrifice i make to help out the wild guys, and they love me for it
so if anyone see this and is looking for good home for thier bird, and if we are the right fit for each other, i am here and not going anywhere, you can come to my home and meet my family and flock and check up on them whenever you feel like it.
i know how much these amazing creatures affect your heart, they are different to me than any other pet i have ever had, i am smitten with them every day, they make me laugh everyday and i just adore them, when they are cranky they hurt my feelings, they make me happy when they say they are sorry and want scritches and i have room for one more life long friend.
