THOMPSON ISLAND, BOSTON, MA, June 4, 2009
Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center is now offering summer expedition scholarships to boys and girls ages 12-17 who live in Rockport, Gloucester, Essex, and Manchester. The Cape Ann Scholarship Fund is made possible by generous donors that have designated the young people of these communities a priority.
On Thompson Island Outward Bound Summer Expeditions, young people explore the Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area, sea-kayak throughout the Islands, sail along the Massachusetts coastline and go climbing on Thompson Island. Expeditions emphasize leadership, teamwork, self-esteem, fun, and adventure. The goals are to help students develop confidence, determination, a sense of responsibility and compassion for others.
The summer expeditions take place both on and off the Harbor Islands, and involve camping or sleeping aboard the boats - out under the stars. Courses average 12-14 days and scholarships are still available for Cape Ann youth.
